An essential rule for all by: anonymous

When I walk down the street I always feel like people are judging. One person’s facial expression asks, “Why is that person wearing those shorts?” Another person’s hand covering their mouth shouts the question, “Why didn’t that lady do her hair?” A man moving across the sidewalk is saying, “That women’s smile is nice, but her teeth are too yellow!” These instant thoughts seem uncontrollable. Not only am I judging, but I am being judged as well. I may feel like I know a person by catching a glimpse of them, but how is that possible?
I have learned from experience that looks do not tell everything. I have learned this from being judged and by prejudging others. The ideas and looks I have received from others have been very hurtful. The thoughts and laughter I have portrayed to people have been just as painful. It should not matter if a person is big or small to determine their potential, or if a person is rude or polite to determine their ability to care. What really matters is the inner person.
I have recently experienced some of the harshest judgment from my peers. Since the start of school more rumors have been spread about me than over the passed sixteen years of my life. I thought other students would have understood my dilemma, but that was not the case. I have heard everything from getting into fights to being domestically abused as the causes. People are starting to judge the amount of respect I have for myself. It is a frustrating incident to be apart of because people do not thinking about the effects rumors may have on a certain person. After years of proving I am a responsible, non-violent young women many people’s perception of me have instantaneously changed.
I have been on both sides of the judging table. A common act that I am familiar with is prejudging. I tend to prejudge people because of their external appears. I had a habit of publicly talking about people. I unknowingly hurt their feelings, but at that time I did not care. I do not regret my actions from the past because they have molded me into the person that I am today. I have come to realize that my instinct judgments were not correct. In fact those judgments have kept me from becoming acquaintance with a lot of people. Since I was so In the end I have cheated myself out of relations that could have helped made me a better person.
As time goes on more lesson are taught, more advice is given, and more people start to change. Experiences will always occur, but it is up to me to take advantage of these self improvement opportunities. People should never judge a book by its cover but instead judged the book based off of it’s contains.
